A North Carolina elementary school teacher is facing criminal charges after authorities say she assaulted another shopper during a confrontation at a South Carolina warehouse store on Valentine’s Day. According to the Richland County Sheriff's Office, 42-year-old Ashley Murff was arrested and charged with third-degree assault and battery following the incident at a Sam's Club in Columbia. Deputies responded to the store on Fashion Drive around 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 14 after receiving reports of a fight that allegedly involved a racial slur. Investigators say the victim told deputies she was standing in line for a rotisserie chicken when Murff, who was behind her, directed a racial slur at her, sparking a verbal dispute. During the argument, the victim attempted to photograph Murff, at which point Murff allegedly punched her in the face. Witnesses intervened and separated the two women, reports from local stations including WBTV and WYFF state. Murff reportedly left the store before law enforcement arrived. However, deputies said they were able to identify her using surveillance video and later secured a warrant for her arrest. A friend of the victim, T’Nae Parker, told Columbia Fox affiliate WACH that the dispute began after her friend picked up a second chicken for an elderly woman who was unable to stand in line. Parker said Murff became upset and used a racial slur twice before the situation escalated into violence. Murff works for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and teaches at Winget Park Elementary School. The district has reportedly placed her on paid suspension while it conducts its own investigation. She was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Wednesday. Court records did not immediately indicate when she is expected to make her next court appearance.#fyp #viral
