H-E-B just announced plans to replace one of its longtime North Texas grocery stores with a brand-new location more than TWICE the size of the existing store. And this time, the expansion is happening in Ennis, Texas, just south of Dallas. H-E-B has operated its downtown Ennis grocery store for more than 50 years, but now the company is planning a massive 112,000-square-foot replacement at North Sonoma Trail and East Ennis Avenue. And this is going to be a major upgrade. The new store is expected to include: * A drive-thru pharmacy * Curbside pickup and home delivery * Expanded grocery departments * Freshly made tortillas and sushi * An in-store South Flo Pizza restaurant The company is targeting mid-2027 to move forward with the project, with construction completion expected in late 2028. But here’s something interesting. The existing downtown H-E-B isn’t closing anytime soon. The company plans to keep the current store operating until the new location is ready for customers. And H-E-B hasn’t announced what will happen to the longtime downtown property once the replacement opens. That could create an interesting redevelopment opportunity in the heart of Ennis. But here’s why this announcement matters. We talk all the time about H-E-B expanding into new communities across DFW, including Prosper, Frisco, Fort Worth and Garland. This project is different. H-E-B isn’t entering a new market. It’s making a major reinvestment in a community where it has already operated for more than five decades. And as Ellis County continues to grow, established cities like Ennis are seeing investments that go well beyond new residential development. A 112,000-square-foot H-E-B is a pretty significant upgrade for a city that has supported the company for more than 50 years. So here’s my question for Ennis residents. What would you like to see happen to the old downtown H-E-B property once the new store opens? #EnnisTX #HEB #EllisCounty #DFWDevelopment #DevelopingDFW
