I think the problem is that Buck feels like he's only ever a friend. He's Chris's friend, he's Eddie's best friend, and he's Theo's friend (when he needs to be more.) He can't ask for more because of the fear that if his "straight" best friend realizes he's treating him like a significant other, he's gonna lose Eddie. Buck can't be in love with Eddie, not because he's not in love with Eddie, but because he believes Eddie is incapable of loving him back. Eddie can treat him like a co-parent/partner/husband all he wants, but from Buck's perspective, he is fundamentally outside of Eddie's family, and therefore, Buck and Theo are outside of him, despite how desperately Eddie wants to bring them together.

Unfortunately I think this is accurate from eddies POV. Especially considering that Buck didn’t call Eddie when Theo broke his nose. Eddie called buck and Theo answered it. I think realistically for buck it’s not about trust it’s projection and him worrying about being too much or asking for too much / overstepping in their friendship from Eddie.

the thing is, buck always tried to back away from the parental role towards Chris as if he didn't deserve it, so when Eddie assumes to take on that role for Theo as well, Buck just isn't used to that behavior, because he never did it consciously towards Eddie. I hate how they're both so right, my babies are going through it each season 🥹
