In April 2026 an Escambia County Sheriff's deputy in Florida went viral after a tense confrontation with First Amendment auditor Mark Mancha who was filming from a public area near the Islamic Center of Northwest Florida. Deputy Panozzo initially questioned why he was recording and warned him not to trespass onto nearby private property but the conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument. After Mancha challenged her the visibly frustrated deputy repeatedly responded "come on then" as other deputies eventually stepped in and helped defuse the situation. No arrests were made and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office later criticized the interaction with Sheriff Chip Simmons saying it failed to reflect the agency's standards of courtesy integrity and professionalism. Panozzo was temporarily moved to an administrative assignment while the incident was reviewed before being cleared to return to duty days later. The footage exploded across social media with viewers debating the deputy's emotional reaction the auditor's behavior and how officers should respond when citizens legally film them in public.
