@elly.psychologist: Being told again and again that you’re someone you’re not can slowly change how you see yourself. It might start with little remarks, often wrapped in humour, said to you or about you in front of others. You’re so cold. You’re so dramatic. You always have to have an opinion. Sometimes it goes further, with accusations of lying or being sneaky when you’ve done nothing of the sort, or being painted as the angry, unstable one in the relationship. Some people even borrow psychological language to describe you, turning a label into something that sounds like a diagnosis. This is often called character assassination, and it’s a quiet but powerful form of emotional abuse. What makes it so disorientating is that the traits they point to are frequently a response to how you’re being treated. When your boundaries are crossed, when you’re criticised, put down, shouted at or intimidated, of course you react. Then the reaction becomes the evidence. You get upset and you’re unstable. You pull back affection after being hurt and you’re cold. You want a bit of independence and suddenly you must be hiding something. The story gets turned around so that their behaviour disappears from view and yours becomes the problem. Underneath this kind of emotional abuse is a way of keeping control, avoiding responsibility and staying one step ahead, so that your feelings never have to be dealt with. Over time, many people start trying to fix the version of themselves they’ve been handed. They work on being warmer, go out less, swallow their anger even when they’ve been treated badly, try not to feel much at all, and slowly give up the parts of their life their partner doesn’t approve of. It looks like self-improvement, but it’s really emotional abuse doing its work, keeping you small and in line. One of the most grounding things you can do is to stop taking their description of you as the truth. Write down who you actually are, the qualities and strengths you bring, the skills you have, the kind of person you know yourself to be when you’re not being told otherwise. Coming back to that list can help rebuild the confidence and self-image this kind of emotional abuse wears away, and it often helps you see the wider pattern of manipulation for what it is Official accounts and resources: www.ellyanastasiades.com #emotionalabuse #emotional #emotionalabusiverelationship #relationshipabuse #abuse

My wife has BPD and all her close friends think I am a bad husband when I have done everything to look after her and have been subjected to her splits and have been mentally and verbally abused 😢 I do all the cleaning cooking pay for her car and phone and all her clothes and I live her very much.

I was told so many bad things that I knew I wasn't and things I didnt do..I knew I hadn't done anything wrong and only tried to be a positive force...in the end it took me over a year to even be able to go to the local shops without fear of physical harm or being pulled by people I wouldn't have even known who they were...still affects me and I'm still having to constantly remind myself that I did nothing wrong..but the way they make you by constantly barraging you with accusations..so you end up explaining yourself to the point you're not even knowing who you are yourself anymore...I lost my self confidence..I now play my music loud to block the whole world out...it's made me a very nervous person tbh..broken heart syndrome is real and I don't know any way to fix that tbh

Another Day :
Help ! This is my life to a tee. I can’t describe fully what has been going on for the last 4 years I’m being accused of pranking and pointing things at my wife . She is convinced that I deliberately drop sweet wrappers in purpose ,or place objects to deliberately point at her for example pencils practicality anything in the house . Then it’s relentlessly viscous questioning , why did you place that there ? and then being called an abuser . The list is endless what I can’t do , if I leave the tea spoon upside down after making a cup of tea I get accused of doing this deliberately and it’s abuse , this sound crazy buts it’s my world , she has convinced her family I have a mental health problem, I haven’t! I have really lost my temper as the accusations are daily. I’m constantly called a liar and abuser , and I feel ashamed I have lost it over this. I have become isolated as i constantly scanning the house incase she spot something she believes has been deliberately placed , it only takes her seeing something she thinks I have placed and the day or holiday is ruined. The more I try to defend myself the worse it gets . I have pictures in texts set to me at work , I have been on my knees crying as the vicious verbal attacks are relentless, , I am on constant alert I’m a big guy and have been reduced to an emotional mess . I have had counselling, but she convinced and her blame is immovable. To try and describe everything here is impossible. I probably have described it well. I know leaving is the solution. I have suggested we both go to psychologists but she is convinced there this is nothing to do with her. My life is a misery and I can’t fight this anymore. Has anyone been in a similar position or know what the hell is going on here. Sorry if doesn’t make much sense, I’m numb and in total survival mode for 4 years now .

Projective identification. Took 3-4 months of therapy post-relationship for me to shake the shame I was carrying for her.

everyday, just today I went out to exercise at 0630 so it dosnt interrupt the day later, got back about 8 my daughter joined me in the bath she was still asleep and I thought it was a good way of keeping my daughter entertained while she slept. my daughter left the bathroom around 930 and I got nothing but abuse about selfish I was letting my daughter wake her up while I was still in the bathroom...didn't want to listen to a word I had to say on her perspective vs the facts.....

The ex husband used to do this. Except he would play the victim, so subtly to friends and family or even school teachers and shop workers, implying he was abused by me. He was the abuser. People would give me dirty looks when I saw them but not say why. He continued this post separation.

Abuser has Many ways of hiding their lies and character, I was married and lived with one for 6years with constant abuse, After the abuse I was recorded secretly and was made fun of with his friend watching this video, He would still leave the kids and I to see this Women He hangs around with sometimes not coming home, it all ended when I was able to recover this abusive videos on his phone and email, and got access to his internet activities, I got text messages of his infidelity and his drug abusive side, found out he was cheating on me all this while without him knowing and this helped me with my divorce and child custody, My mental state is still undergoing recovery, I got recommend to @Cyberclone on Tiktok if you need such help with an abusive person or cheating partner you can reach out to him
