Went to a house who had decorations, porch lights on, AND HOUSE LIGHTS ON. Nothing was being handed out.

My rule of thumb is if the porch light is on, we knock/ring the doorbell, even if they don't have decorations. That was the rule I had growing up. My kids made bank last night and I would say about 50% of the houses that gave out candy were not decorated, but had the porch light on.

Most houses in my neighborhood just set out a bucket of candy. 😕 defeated the whole point of saying trick or treat.

First time giving out candy and none of the kids would knock or ring the door bell. I HAD to sit outside or no one would have gotten candy. I’m confused and not a single one said trick or treat. I’m not mad. Just confused.

Yes!! I had Halloween decorations and porch light on but everyone kept passing by my house. I had to sit in my driveway to give these dang kids free candy. Not a lot of “trick or treat” and even less “thank you”.

This must be location thing because where I’m from the porch light on means we expect trick or treaters and are absolutely prepared for them in abundance.

I saw a house fully decorated with all the decorations on, the had candy AND chip bags....but when we walked back past, the porch light was off (decorations still lit) and 2 chairs set neatly to block the way to the front door. I really appreciated this way of saying "happy celebrating, but we are out"

Idk when I was a kid we knocked on EVERY door no matter what it looked like. If no one answered after a few minutes we would just go to the next one.
