I grew up watching Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. For me, that movie was the start of two things: a love for crazy sci-fi ideas… and a pretty specific fascination with shrinking women. 😅 Then Honey, I Blew Up the Kid added another twist to that fascination: giant women. Diane Szalinsky definitely made an impression back then. And to be completely honest, as a kid I also had a pretty big crush on Amy O’Neill, who played Amy Szalinski. 🙈 Because of that, I’ve had one particular “what if” idea in my head for a very long time: What if Amy got hit by the laser… and instead of shrinking, she suddenly became gigantic? That idea has been living in my head for years, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who ever thought about it. 😄 Now I finally tried to bring that idea to life in the form of a very short fan film. The video itself is extremely short (barely about a minute), but it still took several days of work to put together. It’s funny how something that looks simple can actually take a lot of time behind the scenes. Originally, I would have loved to portray the original Amy exactly like she appears in the movie. That would have made the nostalgia even stronger. But doing that properly would have meant a huge amount of additional work and probably pushed the whole project way beyond what I could realistically do. In the end, this turned into a small passion project for me. Just a short scene based on an idea that has been stuck in my head for a long time. Will there be more parts? Honestly… I have no idea. That will probably depend on the reaction from viewers. So if you enjoy this kind of re-imagining of classic sci-fi movies, feel free to let me know.
