10 years of living with Graves' Disease and Thyroid Eye Disease (TED)... and what a journey it's been. In October 2015, I woke up one morning and noticed my left eye was bulging. By December, I was diagnosed with both Graves' disease and Thyroid Eye Disease, an autoimmune condition that causes inflammation and swelling in the tissues surrounding the eyes. In March 2018, I underwent a total thyroidectomy after my thyroid had grown to 3–4 times its normal size, becoming a large goiter. But here's something many people don't realize... removing your thyroid doesn't cure Graves' disease or guarantee that Thyroid Eye Disease won't flare up again. TED is driven by the immune system, not simply by thyroid hormone levels. In 2022, my TED flared up again, years after my thyroid had been removed. The inflammation, pressure, pain, and changes in my appearance continued to affect my everyday life. After years of living with this disease, I was finally approved for Tepezza in May 2026, a treatment specifically designed to target the process responsible for the inflammation and swelling behind my eyes. Today, I've completed 6 of my 8 infusions, and this video documents the changes in my eyes throughout this journey. It's been a long road, and I'm not finished yet, but I'm grateful to finally be receiving treatment. I'm sharing my progress because TED is so much more than how our eyes look. It's painful, exhausting, and can affect our vision and quality of life. And if sharing my experience helps even one person recognize the symptoms or feel less alone, it's worth it. 💜 #ThyroidEyeDisease #GravesDisease #Tepezza #autoimmunedisease #Thyroidectomy
