I am deeply disturbed that a Macomb County election worker, who was hired by Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini, publically mocked and joked about “cancelling” my vote after I cast my ballot during Early Voting yesterday and shared this post. Cameron Bruce: as a Macomb County election worker, you should know that your words and actions matter. Publicly mocking candidates, political parties, or people who hold different views raises legitimate questions about your impartiality as an election worker and a government employee when you serve the public. I'm not sure what's so funny about this to you. You made a public comment saying you gladly “cancelled” my vote, and I simply asked you to clarify what you meant. You work for the Macomb County Clerk's Office, a position that carries a responsibility to serve the public fairly and without political bias. You're entitled to your personal political opinions, but publicly mocking people over their vote and making threats about canceling (spelled with one “l” and not two, by the way) someone's vote is not something anyone should tolerate from a government employee entrusted with our election process. You can't expect the public to have confidence in our election process if the very people entrusted with protecting its integrity are publicly displaying political bias or suggesting tampering with people’s ballots. Professionalism, respect, and impartiality shouldn't stop when you’re not on the clock. Our election is not something to joke about especially when your position is publicly known. The public has a right to have confidence that the people administering our elections take that responsibility seriously. That includes how you conduct yourself outside of work. Please DO BETTER to uphold the public’s trust and our elections!
