the Cost of Following Jesus 📖🙏🏽 Today’s reading challenges us to examine our hearts, honor our commitments, welcome the humble, and consider what it truly means to follow Jesus. We see that the Father’s standards are higher than human traditions, and that our priorities reveal what matters most to us. ✨ 1. Marriage and the Importance of Commitment The Pharisees questioned Jesus about divorce. He pointed them back to the beginning, reminding them that the Creator made male and female and that a husband and wife become one flesh. 📖 “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” — Matthew 19:6 (KJV) Jesus emphasized the seriousness of the marriage commitment rather than treating it casually. His teaching calls us to consider the faithfulness, responsibility, and care involved in our relationships. ✨ 2. Welcome the Little Children When people brought children to Jesus, the disciples tried to turn them away. Jesus corrected them and welcomed the children, teaching that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who receive it with a childlike heart. 📖 “Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 19:14 (KJV) Children remind us of the importance of humility, trust, and dependence. We should never allow pride or status to prevent us from approaching God with a sincere heart. ✨ 3. The Rich Young Man: What Has Your Heart? A young man asked Jesus what good thing he must do to have everlasting life. Although he had kept the commandments Jesus mentioned, he struggled when Jesus told him to sell his possessions, give to the poor, and follow Him. 📖 “If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.” — Matthew 19:21 (KJV) The man’s sorrow revealed how deeply attached he was to his wealth. Jesus wasn’t merely discussing money; He was exposing a heart that struggled to put God first. Reflection: Is there anything in my life that I would find difficult to surrender in obedience to God? ✨ 4. The First Shall Be Last Jesus taught that worldly measures of greatness do not determine greatness in God’s Kingdom. 📖 “But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.” — Matthew 19:30 (KJV) In Mark 10, Jesus also explained that true greatness is found in serving others, not in seeking power or recognition. 📖 “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” — Mark 10:45 (KJV) Jesus demonstrated humility through service and sacrifice. Following his example means choosing love and service over pride and selfish ambition. ✨ 5. Faith That Refuses to Be Silenced Mark 10 tells of blind Bartimaeus, who cried out to Jesus for mercy. Even when others rebuked him, he cried out more loudly. Jesus stopped, called him forward, and restored his sight. 📖 “Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole.” — Mark 10:52 (KJV) Bartimaeus responded by following Jesus. His story reminds us to keep seeking mercy and to respond with faith when an opportunity to follow God’s direction comes. 🌿 What can we take away from Matthew 19 and Mark 10? * Treat commitments and relationships with seriousness and care. * Approach God with humility and a teachable heart. * Examine what may be competing with God for first place in your life. * Remember that true greatness is demonstrated through service. * Do not allow the opinions of others to silence your sincere faith. * Trust that what seems impossible to people is possible with God. ❤️ Today’s Reminder: Our greatest treasure is not what we possess, but the life we build through faithfulness to Him. May the Father help us keep our hearts humble, our priorities aligned with His will, and our hands ready to serve others. #BibleInAYear #Day304BibleReading #Matthew19 #Mark10 #DailyBibleReading
