![A nurse who stabb3d herself outside a hospital in a compensation con has been found guilty of wasting police time. Donna Maxwell, 47, from Irvine, claimed she was attack3d by a mentally unwell patient outside Ailsa Hospital in Ayr in November 2018. The horror incident sparked a huge police probe resulting in an innocent woman - who has since di3d - being hauled in front of a court before being cleared. But the NHS health worker's web of lies came crashing down when the jury saw CCTV of her buying the weapon from Tesco. Maxwell continued to insist she was the victim of a 'random att*ck' during a 4-day trial at Ayr Sheriff Court. But a jury found her guilty of telling a pack of fibs after hearing evidence that she made internet searches for 'claim compensation' before plunging the knif3 into her own abdomen. Her attempts to dodge justice came undone when the court saw CCTV footage of her buying a knif3 in Tesco that matched the blade she would go on to thrust into her own body. Maxwell told the court the accusation she had stabb3d herself was 'completely untrue'. She also told the jury how she had been confronted by her alleged attack3r before being stabb3d. The trial heard evidence Maxwell had bought a Go Cook kitchen knif3 from Tesco in Irvine with a serial number that matched the blade. Stricken Maxwell convinced colleagues who ran to her aid that she had been ambushed & knif3d at the facility, which specialises in mental health, psychiatry & addictions. James McGoldrick, who served as a detective sergeant in Police Scotland's cyber crime unit, told the trial police analysed Maxwell's phone. Data showed Yahoo searches for 'woman's anatomy' & 'woman's anatomy diagram', which had been deleted by a user of the device. He told the court police were unable to tell when the pages had been accessed or deleted. Searches for 'claim compensation' on the UK Government's website & 'claim compensation if victim of crime', were also found in the web history. As part of an appeal for information Superintendent Brian Shaw gave a description of the 'suspect' who was aged between 30 & 50, 5ft 2in to 5ft 3ins, with a slight build & pale complexion. Prosecutors alleged that 'on a number of occasions' between November 22 & 27, Maxwell informed police that she 'had been assault3d & struck on the body with a knif3'. The single charge alleged she made statements to the police, at her Irvine home & at Ayr Hospital, which she knew to be false & that she 'did temporarily deprive the public of [the police's] services & render the lieges liable to suspicion & accusation of ass*ult to injury'.
