𝐘𝐯𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐧 :
oh, seriously! i thought you were lip-syncing to someone’s video, only to realize that it was actually you speaking. 😂
anyways, you are really, really speaking the truth. we put so much fear into people, especially here in africa, and more specifically, ghana.
somehow, we’ve been made to believe that the quieter you are, the more respectful you are. when an adult is speaking and you keep quiet, even when they’re wrong, you’re considered well-mannered. when someone bullies you and you choose not to react, you’re praised for being calm, mature, and knowing how to handle yourself.
but the moment you speak up for yourself, refuse to let people take advantage of you, or stand up against bullying, suddenly you’re rude, disrespectful, stubborn, or badly raised.
and honestly, that’s a mindset we need to unlearn. respect should never mean allowing people to disrespect you. being calm doesn’t mean you should tolerate mistreatment, and standing up for yourself doesn’t make you a bad person.
the world can be cruel, and you need to be strong enough to stand your ground and protect yourself. at the end of the day, survival is for the fittest.
