Only those who have lived in China can understand the changes in social atmosphere since Xi Jinping took power in 2012 - not just in terms of anti-corruption efforts, but also in public safety. I remember before 2012, gang activities were particularly rampant, with frequent street fights and thefts. It was pretty common for gangsters to extort protection money from little shops on the streets.

Of course, cause the economy is not doing too good so China has to make it look like they’re fighting corruption so they’re throwing people overboard. It’s all about keeping power. It’s not about fighting corruption.
