تُعدّ معركة الفاو (عملية رمضان المبارك) إحدى أبرز المعارك الفاصلة في الحرب العراقية الإيرانية. انطلقت المعركة فجر 17 أبريل 1988 لاستعادة شبه جزيرة الفاو التي احتلتها القوات الإيرانية عام 1986. اعتمد العراق قبل الهجوم خطة خداع استراتيجي أوهمت إيران بأن الخطر القادم يتركز في القاطع الشمالي. شنّت القوات العراقية هجوماً مباغتاً ومكثفاً بمشاركة الحرس الجمهوري والفيلق السابع وسلاح الجو. اتسمت العملية بسرعة الحسم، حيث تمكنت القطعات العراقية من استعادة كامل شبه الجزيرة خلال 35 ساعة فقط. أعادت المعركة للعراق منفذه البحري والنفطي الاستراتيجي الوحيد على مياه الخليج العربي. نجحت الخطة في تدمير تحصينات الخصم وتأمين مدينة البصرة ومناطق الجنوب العراقي بشكل كامل. شكّل هذا الانتصار نقطة التحول الكبرى التي عجلت بموافقة إيران على قرار وقف إطلاق النار وإنهاء الحرب.The Battle of al-Faw (Operation Ramadan Mubarak) is one of the decisive turning points of the Iran–Iraq War. Launched at dawn on April 17, 1988, its goal was to recapture the peninsula occupied by Iranian forces in 1986. Prior to the assault, Iraq executed a strategic deception plan, convincing Iran that a major attack was coming from the north. The Iraqi forces then launched a sudden, massive offensive featuring the Republican Guard, 7th Corps, and Air Force. The operation was swift and decisive, resulting in the full liberation of the peninsula in just 35 hours. This victory restored Iraq's only strategic maritime and oil outlet to the waters of the Persian Gulf. The successful maneuver destroyed fortified positions and completely secured the southern city of Basra.
