@nursingmama.ie: Why is my baby biting me while breastfeeding?! 😩 If your baby has suddenly started biting during feeds, you're definitely not alone! But WHY does it happen? 👇 Teething: Your baby may be experiencing gum discomfort and biting can provide some relief. Distracted or finished feeding: Babies often bite towards the end of a feed when they're no longer actively drinking. Slower milk flow: Some babies bite or clamp down when the milk isn't flowing as quickly as they'd like. Looking for a reaction: Sometimes babies discover that biting gets a BIG reaction from Mum! 💡 What can you do? ✅ Watch for changes in sucking and swallowing. Biting is more likely when your baby stops actively feeding. ✅ If your baby bites, gently break the suction with your finger and calmly remove them from the breast. ✅ Offer a chilled teething toy before feeding if their gums are uncomfortable. ✅ Avoid pulling your baby straight off the breast, as this can cause nipple damage. Remember: Your baby cannot actively bite while properly latched and sucking with their tongue over their lower gums. And NO, biting doesn't mean you need to stop breastfeeding! Has your baby started biting? Let me know in the comments! 👇 #NursingMama #Breastfeeding #ibclc #teethinghacks #biting
