you have to satisfied with what you have. let's say your car is 20 years old, but it starts right away and runs good. you keep it and save on payments, higher insurance. maybe some repair along the way, but you still saved some dough.

I live similarly. Bought a small house in a rural area and live off my modest SS and tiny pension. Used most of my retirement savings to buy the house cash and taxes are low here.

Raised 6 boys I’m 66 years old and I can’t retire. No car payment mortgage is 1000 but every thing is so expensive. No retirement in sight

No one should attempt retirement if they still have a mortgage and car payment. Payoff home and have a decent dependable car and service it and drive it until it dies. Anyone can retire if they are smart enough to cut out unnecessary expenses.
