@andrea_scaffardi: Musicians, what’s number 11? 👇🏻 Number one: talent is a myth. You become what you practice every day. Number two: if it’s easy, it’s not making you better. It’s just making you feel nice. Number three: frustration means you’re growing. That moment you want to throw your instrument out the window? Don’t. That’s literally where it starts working. Number four: mistakes aren’t failures, they’re teachers. Number five: perfection is a trap. Play to say something. Number six: slow is the fastest way to master anything. I know. I hate it too. Number seven: motivation comes and goes. Consistency shows up every single day, even when motivation is still in bed. Number eight: music is a conversation. If you’re not listening, you’re just a guy talking loudly at a party. Number nine: your music tells a story only you can tell. So stop trying to sound like everyone else. And last but not least… twenty years later, I’m still just getting started.
If talent is a myth, why aren't more 6 yos composing like Mozart did?

agree 👍 I often remind my students not to hide their mistakes from themselves and to focus on the difficult passages they’re unsure about.

Just because you can play technically perfect, doesn’t mean you are able to be expressive. I would argue listening and expression are the gift. Technique can be taught, but you can’t teach someone how to put their heart and soul into something if that’s not what they want.
