@imshahm: MRI: Back to Basics T1 shows anatomy, T2 shows pathology. And it all starts with water. The magnet lines up your protons like compass needles. Then a radio pulse knocks them sideways, and the machine listens as they recover. T1 is how fast they stand back up. Fat realigns fastest, so fat is bright on T1. That is why T1 draws the anatomy so cleanly. T2 is how fast they fall out of step. Water stays in sync longest, so water is bright on T2. Edema, tumors, and inflammation light up like beacons. The trap: gadolinium contrast sharpens tumors and infection. But in severe kidney failure it can trigger nephrogenic systemic fibrosis. Check the GFR before you inject. One last scan. Bright on T2, dark on T1, sitting in the brain. Fluid or fat? Answer below. Save this one. Your future self on a radiology rotation will thank you. #USMLE #USMLEPrep #IMG #MedStudent

How would that not be destructive to the brain when protons are moved magnetically?

In 1973 I was a chemistry major and we were studying H+ protons flipping in various solutions. I said to my chemistry partner "who gives a shit about this crap it's worth nothing" 😅😅😅
