@cockpit_grind: i asked my school what an hour of airplane costs. they told me 165 dollars. then i looked up what the same hour runs everywhere else. the low end is 52. the top is 430. it's the same airplane and the same hour, and that's the real spread across 568 schools. here's the part i didn't know: the instructor is a separate line, and the median for that is 65 an hour. so the airplane is what your total actually lives on. instructors get cheaper and planes don't. i fly out of scottsdale. i picked my school partly on the rate, and even i didn't ask what the range looked like. i just compared two prices like that was the whole market. the quote assumes 40 hours. the average student actually takes 75. those are two different bills. before you sign, ask three things: what the airplane costs an hour, what the instructor costs an hour, and what hour count is baked into that number. what does your airport charge an hour? comment rate and your city and i'll send you my breakdown. #studentpilot #ppl #flighttraining #learntofly #aviation
