@kam_meyer: We ended up giving a 50% refund due to the fact that someone in the group was sick, but we could’ve rented out the weekend to other guests who had inquired for that weekend and had it booked. What would you have done as a host, if you have a strict cancellation policy? #airbnb #airbnbhost #airbnbguests #airbnbtips #airbnbsuperhost
Would a hotel refund because someone got sick? No. No refund.

Just refund the cleaning fee. You still deserve the full stay profit, but whatever you originally determined was the price you needed to be paid to clean, is no longer valid.

I would not refund. They held the reservation and you had no way to rebook the nights. Don’t let them rebook. They can get out of your cancellation policy once they are far enough out.

Absolutely no refund. They understood that when they booked. It’s not your fault there plans took a turn. You should not feel bad at all not giving a refund for this.

I may have refunded the cleaning fee that wouldn’t be necessary but not the rental fee.

I would feel bad too but the problem is that people don’t understand that u had that weekend blocked for awhile and someone else could have booked it. That’s why they offer insurance…

I would offer a refund. They didn’t use the service, they don’t need to pay

No way would I refund. You took the property off market for their stay-had it ready-all the things. You held up your end of the transaction. The policy speaks for itself. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

I’m not a host, but I say no. They caused you to lose money, and your strict policy just became lax.

I don’t own an Airbnb but I wouldn’t offer a discount or exchange. Not your problem. They need to absorb the loss, not you. This coming from a customers perspective.

I would not. I've been a host for 9 years. perfect rating. I'm very reasonable. guests need to be as well. I would have said, I'm so sorry but you held my calendar and obviously there's no way for me to recover that cost by re booking.

50% seems more than fair. I’d require a two night stay on football weekends

I think you're 50% refund is very fair. I mean you could be a jerk and and stick it to them but what you decided to do is the right thing for humanity and what you would hope others would do for you. I hope it gets paid back to you soon.

Non-host opinion, having empathy towards other humans for an airbnb that isnt your main home and shouldn't be your only income and doing a partial discount makes you a better human than all the other people in the comments.
