Most people don't actually want to listen; they are just waiting for their turn to talk. I find myself doing it too often for my liking. And when I try to give context or set up the pretext to what I'm about to say, people lose interest or tell me (with their words or their body language), "get to the point." I often know what I want to communicate to you, but it takes a bit of set-up, and most people haven't got the patience to make the time.
