@drmohammedalo: 51 of 52 patients saw their soft plaque shrink. New FLOWPROMOTE trial 🫀 JAMA Cardiology published FLOWPROMOTE on October 30, 2026. Researchers in Denmark took 104 people who had never taken a statin, all with a narrowing over 50% and reduced blood flow on a heart CT. Half got atorvastatin 40 mg alone. Half got rosuvastatin 40 mg plus ezetimibe 10 mg. Every coronary artery was rescanned at 9 and 18 months, and nobody dropped out. LDL fell to 69.5 on atorvastatin alone and all the way to 42.5 on rosuvastatin plus ezetimibe. Soft plaque, the rupture-prone kind that causes heart attacks, fell 20% vs 28.2%, and it shrank in 51 of 52 patients on the combination. The lower the LDL went, the more plaque melted away. If you want the full trial, watch the full video. Here's the link to Dr. Alo's YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/cWkbjZpfW6c Or follow the short link DrAlo.tv #cardiology #cholesterol #plaque

Personally I can’t imagine taking those doses. I would need pain medication or something and it would still be horrible. Atorvistatin causes sharp muscle pains, rosuvastatin causes joint pain.

Can I automatically jump to 40 mg from 20 mg for family cholesterol? How risky is 40 mg ?

Do you think one could get rid of the soft plaque with Crestor alone. My Crestor was increased to 40 mg/day.

Interesting findings, Dr. Alo. Since calcified plaque increased while noncalcified plaque decreased, how much of that reduction reflects plaque stabilizing through calcification versus actual regression? Total plaque also fell, so presumably both processes were occurring?
