@morgandebaun: This year we took a different approach to AfroTech. Very few panels. More trainings, 1:1 coaching, hands on learning with laptops and advisors. We added a wealth track and partnered with financial institutions to run programs. Added elected officials so we can discuss tech policy agendas. And added more to our engineering and cyber security stages.
unfortunately in corporate our destiny is controlled by shareholders

What I keep hearing is people aren’t really hiring at the conferences hopefully the companies come to hire. That’s not on you tho that’s on the companies!

I am in the process of pivoting my business to be fiscally gentle to those who been negatively impacted by the recession. It’s what I did for 25 years. Now I have control over how I support kinfolk.

Attending many conferences in the past, I’ve learned that these events aren’t for me to leave with a role, but to leave with relationships- at least 5 people at top companies that I can set up a coffee chat/fly to go see, to get a deal done. That’s what controlling the outcome looks like to me

Now this is the type of conference I always wanted to go to. I've never gone to it because it didn't have this.

It’s good to know that the leadership over something this valuable (a corporate conference centered on black development) isn’t afraid to use the language so many of us who are black and in tech need to hear. Our destiny isn’t controlled by a soul. We have the ability, the power and the means. We just need direction on how to find it amongst our current setting 📍

It would be great if you held trainings on how to network, and other skills that employers are seeing a demand for.

I’m extremely concerned as well because this is going to get exponentially worse in the coming months . I honestly don’t think jobs is the answer. Find a way to put your purpose to use with AI 🤖 and a way to find use cases that turn into your own business model

hands on trainings and deeper than surface level discussions. If the event is geared more towards recent grads, early career entry- that's ok. Just let the experienced professionals know that so expectations can be lowered
