HTTD: How’s In-fa Doing? UPDATE 3 - Typhoon In-fa: Typhoon In-fa has definitely seen better days. The storm has currently been ripped apart by considerable dry air intrusion, which has left In-fa looking like this about 48 hours after impacting the Northern Mariana Islands as a Category 4 major typhoon. In-fa is expected to maintain this relatively poor image for at least the next 24 to 36 hours before it gains strength once again as it enters a more favorable environment, where it will then head northeast while intensifying near Category 2 intensity. As of this moment, by our analysis, Typhoon In-fa currently has maximum sustained winds of up to 85mph (~135kph) with an estimated central air pressure of 973mb, moving due west at an estimated speed of 7mph. In-fa is currently about 180 miles (~290km) south-southeast from the Japanese military island base of Iwo Jima, an area that will begin to experience tropical storm-force winds in the next 12 hours. The JTWC is currently expecting In-fa to maintain a similar intensity for the next 3 days, in which during that timeframe, the storm is forecast to perform an elongated northeasterly curve a couple hundred miles southwest from the Ogasawara Islands of Japan. The agency is also suggesting that the storm could fluctuate the intensities between 80 and 90mph (~130 to 145kph) while doing this maneuver, keeping the In-fa as a Category 1 typhoon (SSHWS). Forecasting models are moderately confident with the JTWC’s projection for Typhoon In-fa over the next 5 days, where a majority of models are predicting a similar motion to that of the JTWC, having the storm slowly shifting towards the northeast whilst maintaining Category 1 intensity. This will likely lead to most regions of the Ogasawara Islands receiving moderate rainfall amounts and potential tropical storm-force winds, estimated to be around 2 inches (~50mm). Future updates coming soon! #fyp #infa #typhooninfa #typhoon #update
