Jamie Dessen :
In addition to all the stuff you said, doing that on a stage that famously has trap doors is beyond dangerous

And like, god forbid they fall in the orchestra pit and get injured and suddenly they’d be blaming the theater

I once had a group (who were given permission to take a group photo on stage) go BACKSTAGE and grab a bunch of props.

Worked FOH for Lion King for a year (for which there are two sets of stairs leading up from the two main aisles to the stage for the opening number)… we literally had to station ushers at those stairs for all of pre-show, intermission and walkout to prevent people from going up those stairs and onto the stage since apparently some people view those stairs as an invitation for the audience to get up there. One time an audience member went up the stairs, crossed the stage and went down the other set of stairs just because they didn’t feel like going around to get from one aisle to the other to get to their seats… 🙄

I was taken on an official backstage tour and they emphasized many times just how dangerous that stage is and showed where people have gotten hurt with the trap doors etc! Soooo unsafe and disrespectful!

Thank you for sharing and for confirming it was the production stage manager who stopped them! The audacity of influencers.

The first rule you learn as a cast member is to ALWAYS make sure it is safe and ask permission to stand on stage. A lot of companies now make you do a written safety test as a "stage orientation" before put-ins begin.
