They survived because they’re literally the best pizza flat out. If you’ve ever been, you’ll know. People travel from hours away to get their pizza and no one’s come close to copying it.

I worked next door, at Touro (an orthodox college). I always wanted to stop in, but was afraid my students would see me there, in my frum uniform. There were always lines down the street when you were open. The last day I worked there I had a slice, and it was great!

I remember landing at jfk getting my rental and going straight to difaras in shorts dead of winter. standing in line and getting served by the legend himself. it was the best pizza I ever had in my life.

I play records :
One of my ever first dates in my life a girl who dated me took me to your place. I never even heard of you and I lived on kings hwy. Was really surprised how much a slice was (compared to other pizzerias) … but man, it was worth it. Years later took my new gf who became my wife here and she loved it and always wants to get a whole pie when we in BK.

I’m pretty sure all he had to do was keep meat and cheese separate and like not put pork. He could’ve made pizzas for non-kosher people and made kosher pizza for Orthodox just by keeping his meats and cheese separate

I understand the scenario. I know Avenue J. The entire neighborhood didn’t become Orthodox. If people had to walk a few extra blocks, that wouldn’t stop them for a great slice.
