It’s PERFECT in every way ✨ The Nantahala Gorge Excursion is a 4.5 hour round trip scenic train ride operated by the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad out of Bryson City with a 1 hour layover at the Nantahala Outdoor Center . It is absolutely gorgeous in Fall with the most beautiful Fall foliage pulled by a vintage steam engine (depending on which ride you choose). It’s considered the ultimate autumn bucket-list trip because it provides a front-row seat to some of the most vibrant fall foliage in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Nantahala National Forest! I was fortunate to ride the last train ride of the season on Halloween. Add it to your bucket list for Fall of 2027 right now! I promise you’ll love it!! I rode the open air Fontana car in seat 22 and had insane views the entire way! You’ll cross Fontana Lake, The Tennessee River, the historic Fontana Trestle Bridge, and the Nantahala Gorge.
