My husband Brayan passed away unexpectedly. A lot has happened since then, and I need to speak because this is affecting not only me, but our four children as well. Brayan and I were together for 12 years. We loved each other deeply and built a life and a family together. His family is making it seem like those 12 years meant nothing. They’ve told me I won’t be making any decisions about what happens to him. But I know the relationship Brayan and I had. I know the love we shared. A piece of paper or ring doesn’t erase 12 years of love and memories. I believe I would have the say in planning his funeral, but that’s not what’s happening. His father and sisters have taken control of the arrangements, and I’m not being allowed to have the say I thought I’d have. I’ve even been shut out from seeing my husband’s body. I went to the funeral home and I was told to be escorted out. His sister was calling the police while their father laughed in my face. And when my husband passed away, Daniel and Elizabeth did not tell the officer that he had a wife or four children. I went to the police department and spoke with the detective assigned to the case, he told me Daniel had not mentioned to the officer that Brayan has a wife or four children. I asked the officer what the next steps would be in order to get the information released to me and I have the right of my husband‘s remains. The officer told me I would need to get a lawyer to handle the disposition of my husband’s remains. At that point, I was already grieving, and trying to move as quickly as possible to find a lawyer so I could fight for my husband’s body. Right now, I’m doing everything in my power to fight to have my husband’s body so that we can have his burial and the closure we need. I’m sharing this to bring the situation to light. I want people to see what is happening. Our children deserve to say goodbye to their father. And I deserve to say goodbye to my husband. we deserve closure.
