Structured across three chapters—"Lost Children," "Binding Chains," and the "Birthing Ceremony"—the narrative systematically deconstructs its characters' rigid worldviews to reshape the global status quo. The journey begins in the Misty Valley, where Guts hunts down the child-apostle Rosine. Though he wins, his pyrrhic and incredibly brutal victory leaves a local village girl terrified, proving that Guts's vengeful "Black Swordsman" persona has made him nearly as monstrous as his prey. Battered and exhausted, Guts is soon captured by the Holy Iron Chain Knights, a fanatical religious order led by the sheltered noblewoman Farnese and her protective half-brother, Serpico. This encounter sparks a fierce ideological clash between Farnese’s blind piety and Guts’s harsh reality. However, when malevolent spirits besiege the camp at night, Farnese is forced to witness the terrifying astral world Guts navigates daily, shattering her rigid worldview.
