@dr.mark.bowers: One of the questions I hear all the time is: “How early can you test for autism?” The answer is that autism can sometimes be identified very early in childhood, but evaluations aren’t about checking one behavior or relying on one test. I look at the whole developmental picture. That includes communication, social interaction, sensory patterns, behavior, developmental history, and how those patterns show up across different situations. And autism evaluations aren’t only for young children. Teens and adults can also pursue evaluation after spending years wondering why certain parts of life have always felt different. The goal of an evaluation isn’t simply to attach a label. It’s to better understand how someone’s brain works and what kinds of support may actually help.
