Nuh عليه السلام told his people to seek forgiveness from their Lord. Then he told them what comes with it. Rain in abundance. Increase in wealth and children. Gardens and rivers. Allāh tied forgiveness to openings in this life and the next. Istighfar is not only for the moment of guilt. It is for when the chest feels tight. When you do not know which way to turn. When something sits heavy and will not leave. Keep saying it. Keep returning. The one who makes istighfar a constant return to Allāh finds that Allāh opens what no effort of his own could open.
