When I was a kid my parents used this really old hand me down tree and hand me down ornaments. Everything was wooden and old and just… meh. One year when I was a teen my parents were talking and realized how much they BOTH hated the ornaments and everything for it. So my dad told us all to get in the car and at like 7 at night we went to target and Jo Ann fabrics. Red and green lights were replaced by rainbow multicolored, wooden bead garland replaced by a glittery candy cane striped ribbon, and all new ornaments. When my husband and I had our first I did the same- our tree went from burgundy and gold with a woodland theme to bright red, green, blue and pink with LOTS of sparkles.
