@timeless.mysteries6: Stevie Nicks Says She Wrote “Landslide” While Deciding Whether She and Lindsey Buckingham Should Continue Stevie Nicks is looking back on the moment that inspired one of her biggest songs. At the City of Hope Spirit of Life Gala on Oct. 27, Nicks, 78, introduced “Landslide” with a story. “I wrote this song in Aspen, Colorado, when I was deciding whether or not Lindsey and I should continue,” she said. “It was a long time ago and 930,000 years later, we still continued.” She said she wrote it while looking out over snow-covered hills from a house in the mountains. The people she was with had gone to dinner. She had brought a Goya guitar she could “hardly play,” but thought it “looked good.” Nicks and Buckingham met as high school students in California and began dating in 1972. They released the album Buckingham Nicks in 1973. It was not a commercial success, and they were dropped by their label. That left them unsure whether to keep working together. In 1974, they connected with Mick Fleetwood and later joined Fleetwood Mac. In 1975, the band released “Landslide.” Nicks and Buckingham’s relationship ended in 1976, as the band recorded Rumours. Decades later, Buckingham told E! News in August that he and Nicks are “talking all the time now.” He said working on a Fleetwood Mac documentary helped heal things left in a bad place in 2019. Nicks has described their bond on the Song Exploder podcast. “Our relationship was up and down and up and down and up and down and difficult, but at the same time, fantastic,” she said. Do you think they made the right choice to keep going? #stevienicks #lindseybuckingham #fleetwoodmac #Landslide #classicrock
