A father and son from Arkansas were killed when their private plane crashed in rural Illinois while returning home from a Major League Baseball game, authorities said. Jimmy Don Lewis, 48, was piloting a Beechcraft Baron 55 with his 22-year-old son, Brayden, after the pair attended a St. Louis Cardinals game against the Milwaukee Brewers. They departed from St. Louis Regional Airport and were headed to Siloam Springs Municipal Airport when the aircraft went down shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday. According to investigators, the plane encountered an area of worsening severe weather during the flight. Preliminary flight tracking data indicates the aircraft began turning—possibly to avoid the storm—before entering what officials described as a descending spiral. Moments later, radar contact was lost. Emergency crews launched an overnight search involving law enforcement, firefighters, EMS personnel, drone teams, and an air medical helicopter. However, heavy rain, low visibility, and poor weather conditions made the search difficult. The wreckage was located early Friday morning near a tree line beside a field close to the Columbia Quarry in Monroe County. Both Jimmy and Brayden were found dead at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the cause of the crash. In a statement, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department expressed its condolences to the Lewis family and thanked the many agencies that worked together during the search and recovery effort.#fyp #viral
