@unlocking.the.myst: Jason Priestley Says Brandon and Kelly Were Supposed to Get Married on Beverly Hills, 90210—Then He Left Jason Priestley is looking back on one of Beverly Hills, 90210’s most frustrating love stories. On the show’s rewatch podcast, 9021OMG, hosted by his former costar Jennie Garth, Priestley said the plan was for Brandon and Kelly to marry. “I think that was the overall plan,” he said. So what happened? “I left,” Priestley explained. Brandon moved to Washington, D.C., for a job after season 8, and the wedding was called off. Garth said she was upset about it. “I was so pissed when they didn’t get married,” she said. Priestley said season 8 had gotten very melodramatic, with characters in comas and surprise twin brothers. “It started to feel very daytime-y in a way,” he said. He also said he had been thinking about leaving for a while. He said he repeatedly urged executive producer Aaron Spelling to end the show while ratings were still strong. “I couldn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel,” he said. He recalled Spelling saying he would never end it. Priestley said he might have stayed if he had known the show would run only about another year and a half. It ended its 10-season run in May 2000. Garth said she understood why Kelly chose Brandon over Dylan. “Kelly ultimately decided that stability and, like, less drama was better,” she said.
