follow for more advice on finance and business strategy. If we haven’t met yet, hi, I’m Njideka, The Culture’s CFO 👋🏾 I didn’t start in finance. I have a bachelor’s in science and a master’s in public health, and as a Nigerian American I was fully on the med school track until I decided I didn’t want to do all that schooling 😅 I spent my early career in nonprofit work and community organizing in South Central LA, doing work I loved and getting paid very little for it. Then in 2009 I got let go from a job I loved. That moment taught me something I’ve never forgotten: I never wanted my entire financial security to depend on one employer again. So I built something on the side. I got licensed, started a financial services business, and eventually went full-time. But I quickly realized I didn’t want financial one-night stands with people. I didn’t want to sell a policy and disappear. I wanted to understand what people were actually trying to build. I also saw how traditional financial services weren’t built with a lot of us in mind. So in 2020 I launched my own firm, which is relationship-driven, educational and culturally relevant. Today I work with founders in the messy middle: people running near-million and multi-million-dollar businesses who learned how to make money but were never taught how to financially lead what they built. Here’s the biggest misconception I see. A business making a lot of money doesn’t mean its owner understands the financial side of running it. That’s where I come in. My clients describe me as the heart of a teacher, the mind of a business owner and the passion of a life coach. You can bring me the million-dollar question or the one you’re embarrassed you don’t know yet. I’ll meet you in both places. If you’re proud of what you’ve built but uneasy about what’s next, you’re in the right place. Follow along for more.
