@jettfranzen: I’m not saying everyone that reads books and posts online fits into this category. I’m also not trying to discourage people from pursuing intellectual fields or curiosities. I’ve just noticed this about myself and other people I’ve talked to.
No its so i can be smarter, and therefore better than people i dont like

Good. Consume books. Talk about it. Test your ideas. Tell people. Debate. Now you have a community of ideas and people capable of discussing them.

Such a non issue, totally better than not reading at all. Which unfortunately is much more common.

It's healthier to larps book instead of Halloween parties and alcohol and the hook-up culture. If we larp books then the world might really heal.

Stating that engaging with literature and/ or intellectual media is “performative intellectualism” is just another form of anti intellectualism. Engaging with literature, whatever the reason may be, is incredibly beneficial. Posting about said literature is also beneficial, engaging others in intellectual media and encouraging them to engage with it is net positive.

Tbh, still contributes to fixing a problem with illiteracy in our society so even if it’s consumerism, it’s good enough for me

Why are we hating on people for reading books? Who cares if it’s performative, people are reading and trying to get smarter. We can’t have anything anymore
