President Donald Trump accused California election officials of manipulating vote counts during a lengthy Oval Office press briefing Thursday, claiming that late-counted mail ballots were helping Democratic candidates gain ground in several high-profile races. California’s primary system places all candidates on a single ballot regardless of party affiliation, with the top two finishers advancing to the general election. Because multiple candidates from the same party can split support, it is possible for one party to be excluded from the November ballot altogether. With Gov. Gavin Newsom unable to seek another term due to term limits, the race to succeed him has drawn significant attention. Democratic candidates Tom Steyer and Xavier Becerra are competing against Republican Steve Hilton, who has received Trump’s endorsement. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles’ officially nonpartisan mayoral race, incumbent Karen Bass and City Councilmember Nithya Raman are facing former reality television personality Spencer Pratt, a Republican-backed candidate who has become popular in conservative media circles. Although voting concluded on June 2, California’s ballot-counting process often extends for weeks. State law allows counties time to process mail ballots, including those postmarked by Election Day that arrive shortly afterward. Election analysts have noted that Democratic candidates frequently improve their standing as additional ballots are counted because late-tabulated votes tend to include a higher share of mail ballots. In recent years, Democrats have generally relied more heavily on voting by mail, while Republicans have been more likely to cast ballots in person on Election Day. As counting continued, Democratic candidates narrowed the gap in several races. In the governor’s contest, Hilton’s early lead shrank as additional ballots were reported. Similar movement occurred in the Los Angeles mayoral race, where Bass maintained the lead while Raman gained support and Pratt’s advantage over challengers narrowed. During his remarks, Trump promoted election legislation requiring voter identification and proof of citizenship, arguing such measures enjoy overwhelming public support. However, public polling has shown more mixed views, particularly regarding citizenship documentation requirements. Trump also criticized mail voting, alleging without evidence that California officials were improperly influencing election outcomes. Pointing to shifting vote totals, he claimed newly counted mail ballots were changing the trajectory of key races and suggested the state’s election process was vulnerable to abuse. Election officials and voting experts have repeatedly stated that changes in vote margins during extended counting periods are a normal feature of California’s election system and are largely driven by the order in which different types of ballots are processed and reported#fyp #viral

A man accused of domestic violence is facing multiple murder charges after a deadly crash in California claimed the lives of a pregnant woman, her partner, and their unborn child, according to authorities. Police say 31-year-old Marshall Judson was initially involved in a domestic violence incident late Wednesday night in Pomona. Officers responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. in the 400 block of East 10th Street, where Judson had been identified as the suspect. While officers were on scene speaking with the victim, Judson reportedly returned in a truck. Investigators allege he drove aggressively and deliberately rammed a police vehicle before speeding away, prompting a pursuit. During the chase, authorities say Judson traveled south on Garey Avenue, where he collided with a Ford Fusion carrying 25-year-old Jennifer Loera-Zarco and 26-year-old Marc Anthony Trejo Saldivar. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Loera-Zarco, who was approximately eight and a half months pregnant, also lost her unborn baby in the crash. Judson was taken into custody following the collision. Police say a firearm and additional gun-related items were recovered, and that he did not have a valid driver’s license. Family members say the couple had been eagerly preparing for the arrival of their baby boy. A relative described them as loving and kind, adding that their sudden loss has devastated those who knew them. A fundraiser created to support the family had raised tens of thousands of dollars within days. Loved ones gathered for a vigil on Friday night to honor the victims. During the memorial, Loera-Zarco’s sister emphasized that three lives were lost in the tragedy, not just two, noting the baby “was almost here.” Judson is currently being held without bail at the Los Angeles County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.#fyp #viral
