@psychologistbooklover: The biracial experience - myself and Hudson Williams. Quotes from his interview on The Assemble #hudsonwilliams #biracial #puertorican #irish #fyp
I’m also biracial, specifically Chinese and general white. The people that understand the most are other biracial and mixed race people.

I’m the sort of biracial most people default to: Black and White. He put it perfectly

Since I'm not biracial myself, I can't speak on this from personal experience, but anyone with a bit of empathy should be able to understand. Thank you for speaking up and sharing. You are an amazing person. Keep shining 🫶

I loved this part of the interview. And love how openly you share your experience, I wish people could be more open-minded when considering the experience of biracial individuals without forcing everyone into a box. I’m not biracial myself but am really drawn to this topic, as I’ve always struggled with the concept of identity and belonging, having grown up as a South Asian in an extremely non-diverse part of Canada. I just love that Hudson is prompting these deeper conversations!

I'm not biracial so I can't understand because I haven't lived your experience but I can listen and learn and because I have empathy I can understand that getting some people to see you can be frustrating because they don't want to learn and refuse to listen. I believe it's important to be understanding and kind and not make assumptions.

Not biracial but I’m Honduran and adopted by Brits as a newborn. It’s different but I never fully felt settled with my adoptive family although they have never ever made me feel different, not even once. When I travel to certain places (like Florida) I’m immediately spoken to in Spanish and I don’t know a single word and get side eyed. It’s hard for sure.

I love hearing your thoughts on this. My children are half Vietnamese. I often feel like their feet are in both worlds. There was an incident this past year where my one son was called an Asian slur after years of being considered “white passing”. It was a hard thing for me to navigate with him but he shrugged it off as a joke because that is what he has been taught by his interactions. Don’t make a big deal

Im bi racial, Persian & European . I’ve stopped saying 1/2 & just say I’m full both. I’m not 1/2 anything. I’ve lived my life if duality as my dads family was in India & I didn’t look like my mom’s family. I never felt totally in place anywhere. I do feel I have to know myself more b/c I have to explain myself more than others.

When people used to say “but what about the children” when they were objecting to mixed marriages, this is what they meant. You never have that sense of identifying with one culture.
