@inspectoralx: Texas adopted the 2026 NEC effective September 1, 2026. The important distinction is that island outlets are not completely banned—the traditional outlet mounted on the cabinet side below the countertop is what’s now restricted. Are outlets no longer allowed on kitchen islands? Not exactly. ⚡ Under the updated electrical code, the traditional outlet mounted on the side of an island directly below the countertop is no longer permitted for new installations. Hanging appliance cords can be pulled by children or caught by someone walking past, potentially bringing hot appliances down with them. An island can still have an approved pop-up countertop receptacle or an outlet installed above the work surface. If no outlet is installed, provisions must be provided for adding one in the future. Existing installations aren’t automatically required to be changed, but new construction and remodeling work must follow the code currently enforced in that jurisdiction. #HomeInspection #ElectricalSafety #NEC2026 #NewConstruction #kitchenisland
It’s actually not allowed to have children in my home.

Forget about code, the outlet not being centered on that panel is the real crime.

I bet you 10000% outlets will be in my island if I have to add them myself after the inspection. But rest assured, they will be there.

We rarely use ours. Then only thing I plug in there is a night light when people visit in case they need something from the kitchen at night

Wait until they hear that kids can do that with lamps, and they'll just outlaw any outlets that aren't in the ceiling.

Yeah no one does this because the new pop up outlets are like 300 dollars and requires the electrician to cut a hole into the granite counter top. No thanks.

Pop up outlets are extremely dangerous. All liquid spills fill them, they quit working as soon as any gunk gets in the spring system. Worst idea ever.

This is already out of date, the newest code prohibits electricity in any domestic setting as it could result in danger.

I was forced to put outlets on our island when we built our house so you didn’t have to run the cord across to the counter. Funny how times change
