Murder defendant Alicia Andrews testified today (Friday, October 21, day 8 ) that her codefendant Isaiah Chance sends her messages through a jail kiosk system that a prosecutor said could be considered "sexting," part of what Andrews' described as an ongoing effort to keep her former boyfriend happy. Hillsborough County, Florida, Assistant State Attorney Michelle Doherty questioned Andrews about her current relationship with Chance to try to show jurors that Andrews still is loyal to him and is lying when she says he didn't say anything about murdering Julio Foolio and that she learned of his death on TikTok. "He sends you messages which could be called sexting, right?" Doherty asked. "Yeah, he do. I keep him happy, like I said," Andrews answered. “And you're no longer in a relationship with him, correct?” Doherty asked. “No, he thinks that,” Andrews answered. “And you call him multiple times a day, every day for several months. Isn't that true?” Doherty asked. “Yes, like I said, I'm doing what I have to do. I'm not gonna let him know. I'm not gonna get on the phone and act like it's a change. I'm acting the same. I'm doing what I have to do," she said. Doherty said one thing that I think may have been a big prosecutorial mistake: "Ma'am, you understand you're on trial for first-degree murder, right?" "Yes, I do," Andrews answered. "And it's for hanging out with him," Doherty said. Legally, Andrews can't be convicted of first-degree murder for hanging out with her boyfriend. Closing arguments are still underway in Judge Michelle Sisco's courtroom in Florida's 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Tampa.
