*Well the term love and hate is not emotional hatred like humans.* In the Hebrew culture, “love” and “hate” were often used to mean *“choose” and “not choose”* or *“prefer one over the other.”* So God chose Jacob to carry the covenant and did not choose Esau for that assignment. When you choose one person for a special assignment, it can sound like you hate the other but it’s about *choice for a purpose*, not personal malice.

I think you need to understand something about Jacob and Esau. When the Bible says, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated” (Romans 9:13; Malachi 1:2–3), it doesn't mean Jacob lived a better or more comfortable life than Esau. In fact, Jacob's life was full of struggles. He experienced family conflicts, ran away from home, faced difficulties with Laban, and went through many years of hardship. Meanwhile, Esau appeared to enjoy more immediate comfort and prosperity. But God's choice was not based on who had the easiest life or who appeared to be living better. It was about God's purpose and covenant. Here is the important lesson: A comfortable life does not necessarily mean someone has God's approval, and a difficult life does not mean God has rejected that person. Jacob had many weaknesses and made mistakes, but God worked through his life to fulfil His purpose. So, we should not judge God's love or favour simply by looking at someone's living conditions. God's purpose is bigger than earthly comfort.
