@_ohdangreally: A San Jose cop lost a baggie of meth — so he grabbed new drugs off a stranger and booked them as the ones he lost. And his fiancée, also a cop, allegedly coached the whole thing off his own body-cam footage. Officers Raydarius Surry, 29, and Destiney Thompson, 30 — engaged to be married — are both charged with evidence tampering and filing a false police report. Here's how investigators say it went down: Surry stops a man with a warrant in May. Meth turns up in the man's shoe at the jail. Surry takes the baggie, photographs it, writes it up... and never books it into evidence. It gets lost. Months later the crime lab comes asking for it. So the day before it's due, Surry makes an undocumented street stop near St. James Park — grabs meth off someone, arrests nobody, files nothing — and books THAT baggie under the old case number. Body-cam photos showed the swap didn't match. Thompson, on maternity leave with their newborn, told him the replacement had to "look somewhat similar" to what was on camera — and studied the footage herself to help him get it right, according to the police report. When detectives confronted him, Surry denied everything — then asked to take it back, saying he "kind of freaked out" and was trying to "save my behind." Both posted $100,000 bail. Both had been on paid leave since September. And now the state gets to decide whether either of them keeps a police license at all.
