A 44-year-old Pennsylvania man is accused of stabbing his three-month-old son and leaving the infant outside in the snow following alleged remarks about sacrificing the child. Authorities say Michael Phillips was taken into custody Wednesday after officers responded to a report of a stabbed baby at the Millview Apartment Homes complex in Coatesville shortly after 11:35 a.m. According to investigators, Phillips allegedly stabbed the infant in the abdomen before carrying him outdoors and placing him in the snow. The child was airlifted to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he underwent emergency surgery. The Chester County District Attorney’s Office later said the baby was in critical but stable condition. Court records state that when police arrived, Phillips was heard shouting, “I did it, God. I did it.” Officers reportedly observed blood on his clothing, and body camera footage captured his statements at the scene. A criminal affidavit cited by WPHL-TV indicates the child’s mother told investigators that Phillips had previously made comments about sacrificing their son. She reportedly instructed her nine-year-old child to seek help before running outside, where she shielded the baby with her body in an effort to protect him. Neighbors described the incident as deeply unsettling. One resident said Phillips had appeared normal earlier that day, greeting him as usual while walking outside with the infant. Phillips was scheduled for a preliminary arraignment Thursday, but proceedings were paused after a judge determined he was unable to respond coherently to basic questions and repeatedly asked for God’s forgiveness.
