My birthday falls on thanksgiving and we are also celebrating it with friends on that Saturday. My MIL is PISSED I don’t want to spend all day at their house watching football on MY birthday. My husband is choosing to spend the day with me in our bed binging whatever I want and then having a turkey dinner. 😂

when my mother did this, she showed up to my house that morning woke everyone up in the house and told them get ready and be at dinner by two. we had to repeatedly yell and tell her to get out because she was the one who changed the plans not us.

I don't know Jacob's reason, but my husband works 48 hr shifts at the fire station and when needed we always move us celebrating holidays for him. If family really wants to spend time with us, we all find a day that works.

Omg my family did this every year because we couldn’t share holidays with the “married” siblings families. Those of us who weren’t married had nothing to do on Thanksgiving and Christmas for years

I stopped doing holidays with my family last year. Not about dealing with it. My husband’s family doesn’t do anything either. It is just us and for now that is ok.

my husband has almost always had to work holidays. his mom, sister, etc. never cared to remember what days/times he'd say he wasn't available, then get mad at him for WORKING. eventually we stopped trying. peaceful holidays at home, just our household now. zero regrets.

My mom canceled Thanksgiving one year bc my brother had to work but has no kids & hates being in a social setting. We were like Thanksgiving is a given every year, if he really wanted to celebrate he would’ve taken off lol

Yup!!! 100% been there! My brother came in town we had dinner reservations Friday, on Friday he decides to go drinking with his buddies so they all decided to change dinner to Saturday, i found out 1 hour before we was suppose to show up. We didnt go Saturday but guess who ruined dinner who ruined family pictures who ruined the whole weekend…not the son that canceled dinner to go see old highschool friends

My husband works thanksgiving day, and actually Christmas Day this year too. I don’t expect people to change all their plans for it. If they can, great, but if not then that’s how it is. I hope everyone enjoys!
