I stepped outside my comfort zone. I stopped waiting for permission to become the woman I wanted to be. But it was also the decade that broke me. I found myself at the absolute bottom of grief. The kind of grief that changes you forever. The kind that makes you question how the world can possibly keep spinning when yours has stopped. Losing my dad took a piece of my heart & soul that I will never get back. But slowly but surely, little by little, I found my way back. Not as the same woman. But a stronger one. A softer one. And I realized life is too short to worry about what other people think. Too short to make myself shorter so other people feel comfortable. Too short keep my own happiness on the back burner. And way too short to spend my life being anyone but the bad b!tch I found inside myself. So I reinvented myself. I took risks. I made people laugh. I made some people uncomfortable. I found my voice, my people, and a version of myself I didn’t even know existed. And you know what? I LIKE HER. So here’s to 40. To the wrinkles earned from laughing. The lessons learned from crying. The boundaries I no longer apologize for. The memories I’ve made and the ones I haven’t even dreamed of yet. To the woman who survived the hardest days of her life and still found reasons to laugh until she couldn’t breathe. And to my dad, who I wish more than anything could see the woman I’ve become.
