This is not true. Maternity leave is not mandatory it's only if your company wants to offer it. We do have social security but it is called unemployment. It only last a few months and it's about 1/3 of what you would have been paid. Otherwise what you said is true.

Here in Finland if you get "fired on the spot" you can still get fully paid up to 6 months depending how long you have been working there.

The job market in America is also different, it’s easier to find another job in America than in Europe. Also no it’s not 6 weeks, majority salary paying jobs with benefits do 3-5 months paid
