I matched his energy every time, so naturally, I was labeled “crazy” and “abusive” too. He would literally claim the abuse was “mutual” because of how I reacted to his behavior. Reactive defense is real, but people don’t want to have that conversation because then they’d have to acknowledge what caused those reactions and take accountability for their own behavior.
