Church was once a safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community. It was a place where we could come together, party, and enjoy ourselves without having to deal with ignorance, discrimination, or homophobia. Now that there are fewer “safe” spaces for outsiders to enjoy, it seems that even our own spaces are no longer off-limits to those who bring that same hostility with them. I’ve been a patron for nearly half my life, and never once have I experienced or been a victim of a crime like this. The reality is, it’s not just one street you should be avoiding anymore. It’s the entire GTA that should be a concern. Sadly, it doesn’t feel like anywhere in this city is truly safe anymore.

went to the apple store in eaton centre today, they said they had over 50 people come in saying their phones got stolen from their night out on church street. at around 2am last night u could see the whole street filled with phone cases because they throw them out after pick pocketing 😐

Seeing videos of those crowds on tt, that was my first thought, sadly. Sorry this happened to you and so many others according to the comments. If any of you wear a purse, wear it crossbody before you put your coat on. Harder to snatch it, harder to see under a coat, and harder to access it sneakily (hopefully!).
