also another rabbit and lucien and elain....(in acosh, elain had red bleeding hearts in her hair) There is a Japanese legend about the Bleeding Heart flower that I think could have some fascinating connections to Elain and Lucien. In the story, a wealthy man tries to win a woman's affection with gifts: rabbits, earrings, and eventually, after she repeatedly rejects him, he takes his own life. Now consider that Elain is literally described with bleeding hearts in her hair. Lucien is also associated with gifts, including earrings and the little wooden carving he brought back for Feyre from her father's journey to rescue Vassa. What if these are intentional parallels? What if Elain has foreseen Lucien taking his own life if she rejects him and breaks the bond? Maybe that's exactly why she hasn't done it. Everyone argues that breaking the bond would give Lucien his happy ending, but what if Elain knows it would do the opposite? If she's seen this outcome, then keeping the bond intact may not be about stringing him along; it may be about preventing a tragedy. How can we insist she break it for his happiness if she believes it could cost him his life?
